COURSE OVERVIEW

Our Dual Qualification in Individual Support and Community Services offers a unique opportunity to develop both hands-on care skills and advanced community service expertise. This comprehensive program equips students with the knowledge and confidence to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives across a wide range of community and health settings.

Throughout the Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33021), students gain essential practical skills in providing person-centred support to individuals in aged care, disability, and community contexts. The course focuses on delivering compassionate and effective care, communication, and safe work practices in a professional environment.

Progressing into the Diploma of Community Services (CHC52021), students build on their foundational experience to develop leadership and case management capabilities. This stage focuses on complex community issues, program coordination, and client advocacy, preparing graduates for supervisory or management roles in the community services sector.

Students will engage in both theoretical and practical learning experiences, supported by trainers with extensive industry expertise. The program blends classroom-based learning with practical placement opportunities, ensuring graduates are job-ready and confident in real-world environments.

Upon completion, graduates will hold two nationally recognised qualifications, opening doors to a broad range of rewarding career pathways — from individual support work to advanced community service and management roles.

COURSE DETAILS

There are no academic entry requirements for this qualification.

Students (international & domestic) enrolling into Dual Diploma for Care Service must meet the following entry requirements:

  • A candidate must be a minimum age of 18+ years at the time of course commencement.
  • Submit copy of minimum Year 12 or equivalent international qualification
  • Successfully complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy & Digital test (LLND)
    • Candidate undertaking this course must possess sound language, literacy, and numeracy skills since it requires them to do calculations, perform computations, engineering measurements, plan work activities, mechanical cutting, thermal cutting & welding.
    • All students are required to undertake a language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) test conducted by institute.
    • If learners do not meet English and LLND requirements, learners will be asked to take further Language, literacy, numeracy and digital training.
      • Domestic students: Reading writing hotline – 1300 655 506
      • International students: English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Learners (ELICOS) programs with other institutes (as Institute doesn’t offer ELICOS)
  • Ability to independently use & operate a computer / laptop and knowledge of basic use of office applications. (Part of the PTR process). Learners those who do not possess basic computing skills will be referred to take basic computer training before enrolment e.g. international computer driving licence (ICDL), fee is charged by ICDL.   • Students may also need to have access to a computer (Laptop) & internet service outside class hours.
    • Although Institute will provide access to computers / laptops with required resources during classroom hours however to work on assignments and tasks for self-study. All leaners are expected to have access to a laptop or computer with the Windows 10 operating system or higher. Students must have an active email address for communication and be contactable by phone (mobile or landline) and by mail (postal address).
    • All leaners are expected to have access to Office365 applications such as Microsoft Word, an email platform. If not, Federation Academy will assist with a “student access” to Office365. Student will also be provided with access to specific software applications that may be used for course delivery and assessment.
  • Must be physically fit to undertake physical tasks and responsibilities as required by the course units.
  • Student with specific physical disabilities may need to consider their enrolment depending on the type of disability that may restrict the student from actively participating in the learning process. This will also be discussed at the initial enrolment interview (See below)
  • Attend an interview (face to face / phone / online)
    • All prospective students (the candidates) are interviewed (face to face / phone / online) and will have the course explained to them by a Student Services Officer. The purpose of this interview is to ensure the candidate understands the commitment of signing up to the course, entry requirements, course outcomes, and what is expected of the student during their studies with Federation Academy.

Graduates of the Dual Qualification in Aged Care, Disability and Case Management can pursue a diverse range of rewarding roles across community, disability, and aged care sectors. Career opportunities include:

  1. Aged Care Worker: Provide personal care and support to elderly clients, assisting with daily activities and ensuring a safe, compassionate environment.

  2. Disability Support Worker: Empower individuals with disabilities to live independently, assist with daily living tasks, and implement personalized care plans.

  3. Community Care Worker: Offer person-centred support to individuals and families, coordinate community programs, and advocate for clients’ wellbeing.

  4. Residential Care Worker: Deliver support in residential or group-home settings, foster positive living environments, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

  5. Family Support Worker: Provide guidance and resources to families facing challenges, assisting with care planning, child protection, and family well-being.

  6. Case Manager: Coordinate care and community support services, develop service plans, and ensure high-quality, client-focused case management.

  7. Early Intervention Coordinator: Lead early intervention initiatives to identify challenges and implement strategies that enhance community and individual outcomes.

  8. Social Welfare Work Program Coordinator: Manage and evaluate welfare or community programs to ensure service effectiveness and social impact.

  9. Client Assistant: Support clients with appointments, provide companionship, and collaborate with healthcare professionals to enhance client welfare.

  10. Senior Youth Officer: Oversee youth-oriented programs, provide mentorship, and guide young individuals in achieving positive personal development.

  11. Nursing Assistant: Deliver supervised nursing care, assist in medical procedures, and collaborate with healthcare professionals in aged or disability care settings.

Graduates may also progress into leadership or advanced academic pathways, including roles in community coordination, case management supervision, or social welfare leadership — with opportunities for further study in Advanced Diploma or Bachelor-level qualifications in related fields.

Upon successful completion of the Dual Qualification in Aged Care, Disability and Case Management, graduates can pursue the following academic pathways:
